Guildford Institute: Governance & Staffing

The Guildford Institute is a charitable organisation and a company limited by guarantee, governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association. The Institute is a membership organisation but its activities and amenities are all open to the public. Its Trustees are appointed by the members at an Annual General Meeting. Trustees stand for election for a period of 3 years and at the end of this time can stand twice more for 3 year periods through re-election.

The Trustees appoint the Chairman from among their number. The Board of Trustees meets every six weeks, with the Manager and Assistant Manager in attendance.

Currently the Institute can only support a very small staff team - although they are ably assisted by a team of committed Volunteers in both the Library and Reception.

  • Trish Noakes - Institute Manager (Overall operation of the Institute)
  • Jan Todd - Deputy Manager (Courses and Room Hire)
  • Pru Chambers - Assistant Manager (Talks, Visits and Exhibitions)
  • Mike Peake and Mark Finn - Stewarding/Caretaking (covering early morning and after-hours)
