MEMBERSHIP:

Benefits of membership: Members receive advance notice of activities, reduced rates on visits, free entry to Wednesday Talks and a discount on Institute courses. Members also enjoy use of the Library and receive copies of the Members' Magazine, The Keep, which is published twice a year.

Subscription rates for 2008/09 are £30 for an individual membership or £50 for a double, valid until 31 July 2009. We have now introduced Life Membership: Individual Life Membership is £500 and Joint Life Membership is £750. Enrolment forms and further details are available from the Institute.

Spring & Summer Terms: Courses for January to July 2008

Most courses are being held at the Guildford Institute, although some courses will have visits off site.Click here to see the bounty on offer. You may enrol for both terms now. However, if you are paying by cheque, we would ask you to write a separate cheque for each course, as it is easier for administrative purposes.

We have some exciting new courses such as those on aspects of Health Policy given by Professor Clive Smee. Clive has spent much of his working life as the Chief Economic Adviser to the Department of Health under both Labour and Conservative governments. His book "Speaking Truth to Power" was published in 2005. Although our R.S.C. Hospital seems to have been saved for the moment, this is a timely reflection on what is crucial to the lives of all of us. We are also fortunate to have Geoff Ashworth's courses on the law which affects us all. Geoff is a very experienced tutor, and although we think we know our legal rights, there may be a few surprises. Finally, our own Dr Roy Douglas, who runs the Modern History Group at the Guildford Institute, is giving two courses on cartoons in history - a fascinating subject on which Roy has published extensively.

I have taken notice of your wishes expressed in the recent survey of summer courses, and so you will find that there are more short courses in the summer which will fit in between your other summer activities.

Please enrol for all courses at least two weeks before they begin.

As usual Guildford Institute members can claim a ten per cent discount on all courses.
