The
Library has occupied the same room in the Guildford Institute's Ward
Street site since 1893. It accommodated the large collection of books
which the Institute had accumulated during the latter part of the 19th
century. A considerable number of Victorian and early 20th century
books have been retained. The Library also holds long runs of Victorian
periodicals such as The Illustrated London News, The Graphic, Punch,
The Engineer and The Studio.
The Institute
Library holds a unique Local Studies Collection comprising local
history books, ephemera, photographs, prints and drawings relating to
the history, antiquities and topography of Guildford and Surrey since
the mid 19th century.
In addition, the Library has a collection of up to date fiction and non-fiction which may be borrowed by Institute members.
The Library is open on Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 3pm and on Saturday from 10am to 1pm
Members of the public may visit the Library by arrangement. |
