The northern Italian dukedoms of Mantua and Ferrara have an artistic importance above their size. The Gonzaga and d’Este rulers commissioned works by leading artists, including Tura, Mantegna, Giulio Romano, Bellini and Titian.
In this course, we will explore these fascinating artistic schemes in the light of Renaissance court culture and the tastes and characters of their patrons, including Federico Gonzaga and Isabella d’Este.
