A celebrity in her day, Artemisia Gentileschi (1593-1654) was one of the most fascinating artists of her time. Painting for the female gaze, Gentileschi produced compelling, often highly emotionally charged pioneering female images. Recent scholarship has created a new surge of interest in this captivating artist, forcing a re-evaluation of her work and her place within the history of art.
