‘At the Expense of the Enemies of his Country’ – The Boscawens and Hatchlands Park (T248)
11 March 2020 @ 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm
Speaker: Brian Lavery
Admiral Edward Boscawen was one of the greatest naval commanders of the mid-18th century. It is reported that Boscawen and his wife saw Hatchlands on the way to Portsmouth and eventually purchased it with a plan to rebuild the house. They employed the up and coming Robert Adam to design much of the interior, thus giving a start to perhaps the greatest architect of the century.
Brian Lavery is a Maritime Consultant and was Curator at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, for 14 years. He is the author of more than 30 books and was the historical consultant for the film Master and Commander.
