What are the qualities of good travel writing? The aim is to develop skills to enable you to make places alive so that readers feel they are there. We will consider examples of good travel writing from articles and celebrated travel books, and explore skills in evoking place and atmosphere. We will have short projects and (optional) reading and discussion of students’ work in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.
Bring paper and pen and, optionally, some work in progress for discussion
There will be a 1-hour break for lunch.
