What are the qualities of good travel writing? This course will help you to develop skills to enable you to make places alive so that readers feel they are there. We will consider examples of good travel writing from articles and celebrated travel books and explore skills in evoking place and atmosphere; a sense of place can be found in many forms, e.g. poetry, memoirs and novels. We will have short projects and (optional) reading and discussion of students’ work in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.
Please bring paper and pen and, optionally, some work in progress for discussion.
There will be a 1-hour break for lunch.
