Overview

Fauvism was a brief and exciting movement in France at the beginning of the 20th century. Led by Matisse and Derain, Les Fauves (French for “the wild beasts”) produced some of the most colourful paintings seen in Western art history. Their influence inspired future generations of artists to experiment with colour and composition.
