Join us for this opportunity to explore Highclere Castle, a magnificent estate and film location of the incredibly popular television programme Downton Abbey.
Highclere Castle has been home to the Carnarvon family since 1679 and has a rich history, having been recorded in the Domesday Book. Travel back to a bygone era as you make your way through the unique castle. We will see the different state rooms including the richly-decorated, Gothic-style saloon, the stunning drawing room decorated in green French silk and the smoking room with its 17th-century Dutch paintings. We will also have time to enjoy the upstairs rooms as well as the spectacular gardens with their serpentine paths and riotous displays of colour.
Highclere’s history also includes a fascinating connection with ancient Egypt as the 5th Earl, with Howard Carter, discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. Included in the ticket price is admission into the Egyptian Exhibition, which houses a number of fascinating artefacts, having been assembled to commemorate this historic event
