‘At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.’
(from For the Fallen – Laurence Binyon)

To mark the centenary of the 1918 Armistice, Jonathan Jones will deliver an insightful talk on the poetry of the Great War. Jonathan, a knowledgeable and passionate speaker on this subject, will also explore the origins of the ways in which we remember this conflict.

Discover how the ‘Unknown Warrior’ came to be so named, the origins of the Poppy Appeal, the two-minute silence and the Cenotaph. Jonathan will intersperse the historical elements of his talk with readings of some of the most iconic poetry of the First World War, written by John McCrae, Rupert Brooke, Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.
