Periods of mass extinction have been affecting life on Earth for several billion years, killing large numbers of species simultaneously in a geological blink of the eye.
Although these events are devastating, there are many reasons why life should die.

This talk concentrates on the most significant and diverse of those reasons. Liz will discuss previous mass extinctions including the well-known Chicxulub (Mexico) meteorite impact, which supposedly killed the dinosaurs.
