What have snakes, unicorns and crocodiles got to do with pharmacies? Modern pharmaceutical signs have a long history that dates back to the ancient Greeks. The way these symbols were used, altered and morphed over time reveals just how much design played a part in the symbolism of the pharmaceutical business and how ambiguous their meaning could be.

Using examples from the Wellcome Collection, which holds a wealth of material on the history of human health, Collections Researcher Julia Nurse will examine this fascinating story.
