Peacock and Slug: The Writings of Sir Walter Raleigh – T344 (Face to Face)
5 March 2025 @ 3:00 pm - 4:15 pm GMT
Overview
Susan Morris & Alfred Bradley
The Raleigh family has a close connection with Surrey (The Place at West Horsley). Sir Walter aroused intense feelings amongst all who knew him – not all favourable!
He is of course best known for his seafaring (tobacco, potatoes etc.) and perhaps for his death, by execution. But his writings are fascinating and surprisingly much less well known. Letters, poems and prose poured out of him at key moments of his life: funny, angry, moving, powerful.
Local historians, Sue and Alfred, will cover his extraordinarily glamorous and turbulent life by bringing to life his own clear and direct words.
