Women in the 19th century were expected to conform and take on the traditional roles of wife and mother. This course will examine the work and legacies of the determined women, whose pioneering spirit as female trailblazers in the fields of education, medicine and family limitation, helped women to begin to break out of the straight jacket of domestic life.
