The etymology of our local street names can range from the very obvious to those which are highly obscure. They derive meaning from commerce and industry or nearby landmarks and can also be self-descriptive.

Many of the Guildford street names we know today were called after local worthies. An example is Mangles Road in the Bellfields area of Guildford, which is named after the Mangles family, who were well known in both the political and civic arenas. In this talk, our Library Volunteers will reveal the origins of some of the street names in Guildford.

This is a repeat of the popular Spring 2019 talk.

Please note: it is not possible to book this talk via our website. If you would like to book a place, please contact the Institute on 01483 451034.
