Please note that, the content of this course is different to that advertised on the brochure. This has been changed at the tutor's request, to avoid disappointment, following the cancellation of the Jane Austen autumn term course.
In Sense and Sensibility, the heroines’ creative abilities characterise them; Marianne plays the piano with passion, while Elinor quietly enjoys drawing.
This course will examine the multiple functions of music, drawing and dance in the novel. In these classes, we will discuss and explore how the arts shape this famous novel.
Keen readers are welcome and this course assumes no former study. However, please ensure you have access to a copy of the novel and that you have read it before the beginning of the course.

About the Speaker
Dr Danielle Grover

This was following her completion of a BA (Southampton), MA (Warwick) and PGCE (Durham) in English Literature. She has lectured in four universities in the UK and in Dublin and taught English in secondary and further education.
Danielle loves offering courses on Jane Austen’s novels, which is her specialist subject. She has had several articles published on Austen; most recently, in 2018, one appeared in ‘Jane Austen’s Regency World Magazine’. Danielle has lectured on Austen at international conferences in Australia, Ireland, the UK and, most recently, in the USA in 2018. In 2008, Danielle spent two months as a Visiting Fellow at Chawton House Library- a site where Austen wrote her major novels. To date, she has designed and delivered seven courses on Jane Austen at three adult education centres and has invitations from others. For two years, she acted as Reviewer for the Jane Austen Society UK Newsletter.
Danielle is currently an English teacher and Lecturer based in Surrey. In her spare time, Danielle enjoys teaching the piano, theatre visits, travel and ballet.
