Referred to as the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D is essential for maintaining healthy bones. The body creates vitamin D when the skin is directly exposed to the sun. When there is a lack of sunlight throughout the winter months, vitamin D can be sourced through a small number of food items, including: oily fish, red meat and egg yolks.

Head of the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Surrey, Professor Susan Lanham-New will be discussing vitamin D with regards to current focus and future perspectives.
