Overview

Sue Morris and Alfred Bradley

Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield (1694–1773) was far from handsome but utterly charming: famed for his polished manners, intellect and wit. As diplomat and statesman he finessed his way round many international courts cultivating agreement and friendship. He wrote a blizzard of letters instructing his son on every aspect of how he should try to live.

From practical to impossibly demanding, deadly serious to comical. Historians, Sue and Alfred, will review (with readings) the content and how we could learn a thing or two from Lord Chesterfield!

UPDATE: Please note that Window on the World Talks will now only take place on a face to face basis and not online via zoom.
