Georges-Eugène Haussman’s redevelopment of Paris transformed the city and improved life for many who lived there. Responding to this modernity, art changed too. Manet and the Impressionists developed new and exciting painting styles, transforming European art. Richly illustrated, this course will trace the history of Paris and its art through the turmoil of war and civil strife to the belle époque era.
