Overview

Ian Porter

Ian is a historian, novelist and London walks guide, specialising in women’s history in Victorian and Edwardian times.

This talk looks at how Harry Gordon Selfridge came to build a shop in London. How his great ideas revolutionised, not just his shop, but retail worldwide.
Ian will look at Selfridge’s Great War work, his many lady friends and lavish lifestyle, and how things started to change between the wars. And sadly how it all ended in financial disaster.
