The Weaver, the Shoemaker and the Mother of a Nation: Surrey’s Mayflower Pilgrims – T268 (Online)
16 June 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 4:45 pm BST
This event is part of our Window on the World talk series, which explores a variety of topics on weekday afternoons.
Join us to mark over 400 years since the Mayflower set sail to the New World in 1620 with a talk telling the story of the six ‘Pilgrims’ who boarded the ship from the Surrey town of Dorking.
They risked everything, leaving friends and family to find a new future. But who were they and what were their lives in Surrey like? What was the town like in 1620 and why did they take this perilous journey to an uncertain future? How did they fare in the precarious new colony, how have their lives been represented, and what is the historical legacy of the Surrey ‘Pilgrims’?
This event has been rescheduled from Summer 2020.
