From knicker elastic to spatterdashers, we will examine the history of the textile industry. We will discover how linens were created and used by the ancient Egyptians and how the Silk Road operated, but we will also go into the more current social impact of textile: why has fashion always been closely connected to British social history? What was the human and environmental cost of the cotton industry? How did haute couture find its global capital in Paris?
