The eighteenth century was a period of change, bringing both great wealth and poverty to society. The problems which emerged in London, such as drunkenness, gambling, and foundling children, will be addressed in the works of William Hogarth (1697-1764). Hogarth’s use of wit and satire in his paintings draw attention to many social issues of the day.
