DESCRIPTION:Religion has played a highly important part in the lives of human beings. Islam is one of the great religions of the world. This course considers begins with some of the foundations of Islam: pre-Islamic Arabia\, Muhammad\, the Qur’an\, Sunna/Hadiths\, its early expansion\, and the division between Sunnis and Shias. \nIt then considers some of its ethical foundations and its main mystical element\, Sufism. Finally\, it begins to consider the development of philosophy during its (golden) medieval period.
