DESCRIPTION:Learn the traditional “ink wash” technique\, a unique approach that sits between drawing and painting which is Eastern in origin. Use tone to create dramatic contrasts of light when working with ink. Students will produce studies in landscapes\, still life or figures based on chosen reference photos. \nSome experience of painting is required. A materials list will be provided.

SUMMARY:Poverty and Unrest: Swing Riots in Surrey 1830-32 - T419
DESCRIPTION:The Swing Riots of 1830 – 1832 took place against the increasing pauperisation of labourers. Riots began in Kent in November 1830 and swiftly spread across the counties of southern England. It was marked by attacks of arson against farmers and others\, by the breaking of threshing machines\, the sending of anonymous letters\, demands for higher wages and relief and the exaction of customary “doles”. The common aim was the desire to improve the agricultural worker’s lot. \nThis illustrated talk will examine how the county of Surrey was affected by the riots including the hanging of one of the perpetrators. \nWe’re delighted to offer our afternoon talks on a Pay What You Can basis. We believe everyone should have access to educational and cultural opportunities\, and that no one should be excluded because of their financial circumstances.
