DESCRIPTION:Vera Brittain is best known for A Testament of Youth\, her memoir of the Great War 1914-18. This talk will look at her life up to and including the war years which she spent as a nurse. Particularly addressing her involvement with four young men who were to feature strongly in her life\, and who were to die during that conflict: her beloved brother Edward\, her fiancé Roland Leighton\, school friend Victor Richardson and Geoffrey Thurlow – Edward’s fellow officer. \nThe talk will be interspersed with readings of her poetry\, that of Roland Leighton\, and other contemporary poets. \nWe’re delighted to offer our afternoon talks on a Pay What You Can basis. We believe everyone should have access to educational and cultural opportunities\, and that no one should be excluded because of their financial circumstances. Duncan has a long professional career on numerous West End shows\, film soundtracks\, TV and the BBC Big Band. He has backed Amy Winehouse\, Natalie Cole\, Dame Shirley Bassey and others. His late father Duncan Lamont Sr. played with Frank Sinatra\, Benny Goodman and Count Basie amongst others. \nSwinging interpretations of classic songs written by George and Ira Gershwin\, Cole Porter\, Lerner & Loewe\, Irving Berlin\, Jimmy Van Heusen\, Harry Warren\, Johnny Mercer\, Duke Ellington and others. SUMMARY:Chatty Café Scheme: Chatter and Natter Table
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday mornings at our ‘chatter and natter’ table. Run by our friendly table volunteers\, we provide a welcoming space for individuals to come together to meet\, chat and socialise over a hot drink. One conversation can make all the difference! \n\nPop in anytime from 10.30am – 11.30am \nThe group will either meet in our cosy Library or in V Café – please pop up to Reception on the first floor and one of our team will be able to assist.
