SUMMARY:Guildford Arts Exhibition - Photographer John Walmsley
DESCRIPTION:Guildford Institute and Guildford Arts\, in collaboration with Guildford Festival of the Arts\, are pleased to present their next exhibition from talented artist John Walmsley. \nSpanning decades of extraordinary documentary photography\, this exhibition traces John’s artistic journey from his formative years at Guildford School of Art right up to recent town events. With a dedicated focus on ordinary people living their lives\, John’s work offers a rich\, intimate record of communities and moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. \nKnown for his immersive approach\, John often commits weeks at a time to living within the communities he photographs — building trust\, absorbing atmosphere\, and capturing life with authenticity and warmth. \nThe exhibition showcases a compelling range of landmark projects: the 1968 sit-in at Guildford School of Art; a vivid portrait of life on the Wester Hailes housing scheme in Edinburgh in 1979; an insider’s view of the AA School of Architecture in 1975\, where John was a part-time lecturer; the colourful Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride along the High Street in 2024; and a behind-the-scenes look at a professional repertory theatre company in the 1970s. \nA celebration of real life\, real people\, and real moments.  \nMeet the Artist — 1 October 2026 @ The Guildford Institute — 7pm

SUMMARY:Dan Whitehouse - WE005
DESCRIPTION:GI Music Lounge\nDAN WHITEHOUSE ONLY LOVE TOUR \nSupport – Jackie Conn \nJoin acclaimed singer-songwriter Dan Whitehouse at The Guildford Institute on Saturday 24 October for an intimate evening celebrating his new album\, Only Love. Exploring fatherhood\, distance and connection\, these songs find warmth and hope in the things that bring us together. \nDan will be joined on vocal harmonies by Molly Rymer\, whose warm\, expressive voice and intimate songwriting draw on influences from Fleetwood Mac to Lizzy McAlpine. \nDan Whitehouse is an award-winning UK artist living between Tokyo and Wolverhampton – a singer-songwriter\, composer\, producer and spoken-word performer. “I write folk songs\, but not folk music\,” he says. Born in the industrial heart of the Black Country\, his music is rooted in pop and rock sensibilities yet moves with ease through ambient\, indie\, electro and folk\, creating and performing work that is both deeply emotive and intellectually rich. \nHis acclaimed albums The Glass Age and Voices From The Cones explored the fractures and connections of our digital world and the heritage of glassmaking communities. In 2026 he releases Only Love\, a solo-piano collection reflecting on human connection\, resilience and fatherhood across continents. His immersive live shows weave song and story with piano\, guitar and synth\, inviting audiences into a reflective\, transformative sound world. \n  \n“Gorgeous… and intriguing”  The Guardian \n“…both extraordinary and beautiful” KLOF MAG \n“Subtle and delicate melodies”  The Sunday Times \n“Sublime…” At The Barrier \n \n  \nJackie Conn is a folk singer and songwriter originally from County Durham now based in Surrey. Her debut album\, Baking Day\, was released last November to glowing reviews. It is a heartfelt collection of original songs inspired by generations of her rich and intriguing family history – stories passed down through time\, charting back as far as 1832. \nBaking Day | Jackie Conn \n“…an engaging and thoughtful album”  Folk London \n“Poignant\, warm and sincere… a heartwarming triumph”  At The Barrier \n \n  \nDoors/licensed bar open 7pm \nMusic 7.30pm (with interval) \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThis event is sponsored by Andertons Music Co \nOur GI Music Lounge events are held as fundraising events for The Guildford Institute.
