Explore the fascinating 200-year history of museum architecture, mainly in the UK, but with key examples from abroad. We study the dramatically changing conventions of museum and gallery display, as well as the plans which provide gallery space, offices, storage and, increasingly shops, cafés and education spaces. From temple to power station, museum façades symbolise their changing social role.
