Margaret was born and brought up in North London, attended a girls’ grammar school and has a B.Sc. from King’s College, London (Physics and Maths), followed by a Diploma in Education at Oxford. Margaret taught Maths for 2 years at St. Paul’s Girls’ School in Hammersmith, followed by 8 years on the Mathematical Techniques Group of the Economics Department at the Bank of England. Margaret met and married her husband Mike in 1975 and then had two children Tom and Madeline. Margaret returned to work in 1985 until around 2000, mainly at Guildford College teaching A’ level Maths and Statistics. Margaret obtained an Open University Degree (B.A.) in Humanities in 2006. Margaret then volunteered and then became Assistant Manager of Guildford Cathedral bookshop off and on between 2003-2013. Margaret started volunteering at the Guildford Institute in 2013 after her time at Guilford Cathedral came to an end and she was looking for something else that was interesting and challenging. Margaret’s role on reception involves dealing with queries by phone and in person, making bookings, answering emails and various admin tasks as required. Margaret has been choral singing for many years and has been part of Holy Trinity Guildford church choir since 1995. Margaret also enjoys swimming and cycling, hill walking, theatre, literature, fine art, history and industrial archaeology.
