Profile

Having lived in Guildford for more than 30 years, an interest in local history drew Maureen to the collections of The Guildford Institute library some time after she retired. During her career, Maureen had worked as a social worker, most recently at a hospice. Maureen’s family came originally from Ireland, and she is married with two sons, one living with his family in Guildford and the other working in Cambridge. She has two grandchildren. As well as a strong interest in history, Maureen’s hobbies include gardening and walking. Over the years, Maureen has volunteered with a number of organisations as a way of keeping busy and being useful! Maureen says she loves the variety and interest of the library resources and enjoys working with all the people involved with The Institute. One of Maureen’s tasks in the library involves helping to change and arrange the different displays, which serve as a focus for highlighting a certain collection or section of books.
