Profile
Sophie has lived in Surrey nearly all her life. Her first full-time job after university was at the Sherratt and Hughes bookshop in the Friary. It was there that Sophie met her partner, Nick. Together, they have a 19-year-old daughter, Flo.
After a year at Sherratt and Hughes, Sophie spent the next 21 years of her career working at Eurostar. Sophie was Terminal Manager at Waterloo and then Terminal Manager again after Eurostar moved to St Pancras. Sophie then became Head of On Board Services, where she was responsible for everything that happened on board the service, including train managers, catering logistics and business lounges, and catering crews - all from three different countries.
Sophie has been Surface Access Director of Heathrow Airport since 2022, having been promoted from the role of Business Lead at Heathrow Express. Fortunately, Heathrow encourages colleagues to do volunteering which means Sophie is able to combine working full time with her role as Trustee.
Having been co-opted as a Trustee in April 2017, Sophie is currently the Institute’s longest-standing Trustee. She provided a huge amount of support during the pandemic, and has been particularly involved in marketing and the use and development of the Institute’s historic building. Sophie is currently involved with the organisation and delivery of the Institute’s new music nights which aim to develop our programme and the audience we reach.
