Sue grew up in London and spent many years living abroad, mostly working as a reporter covering foreign affairs. After a 25-year career, she left journalism to help her partner run his studio glass business. Sue now works part-time from home doing admin/bookkeeping for the business.
In her spare time, she tries to keep fit, doing Pilates, Nordic walking and swimming, and she enjoys taking part in courses such as furniture painting and upholstery.
Sue started volunteering when she switched to working part-time from home, she realised she had spare hours to fill, and volunteering at the Institute gets her out of the house, helps her keep busy and of course it is a very good cause.
Sue volunteers on The Guildford Institute reception every Tuesday morning. The role involves meeting and greeting visitors and helping them with enquiries or taking course/talk bookings. Answering the phone and dealing with emails is another part of the job, as well as entering bookings in the various computer databases and spreadsheets….plus whatever else might be needed on the day. The most unusual task she has done was filling tiny glass pots with strawberry jam for a tea party! Sue enjoys meeting all the different people who come to the reception desk and the variety of tasks involved. No two mornings are ever the same!
