Alan Turing – Guildford’s Best Kept Secret – T322 (Face to Face)
17 April 2024 @ 3:00 pm - 4:15 pm BST
Overview
Paul Backhouse
Alan Turing is renowned for his code-breaking achievements during the Second World War. He is also regarded as the father of modern computing and
a significant figure in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Perhaps less well-known is that Guildford was his family home.
Marking 70 years since Turing’s death, Paul, a Guildford Town Guide, will use his most recent research for this illustrated talk looking at the associated stories and locations. Find out why Guildford was such an important part of his relatively short life – the houses, the roads, the churches and the golf club.
UPDATE: Please note that Window on the World Talks will now only take place on a face to face basis and not online via zoom.
