24 April 2024 @ 3:00 pm - 4:15 pm BST
Overview
The Italian Renaissance garden emerged in the late 15th century at villas in Rome and Florence. Inspired by classical ideals of order and beauty, and intended for contemplation and sensory enjoyment. This illustrated talk will look at the most notable features of the gardens in the outskirts Rome. From dramatic cascades and reflective pools at the Villa d’Este to the formal design of Villa Lante. Also the extraordinary statues and structures at Bomarzo.
Cherrill is a freelance garden historian. She has been historical consultant at Painshill Landscape Garden and played key roles for Surrey Gardens Trust.
UPDATE: Please note that Window on the World Talks will now only take place on a face to face basis and not online via zoom.
