Overview

With industrialisation came new challenges. Health and sanitation in overcrowded urban areas, and life dominated by long and monotonous hours of work were major issues. We will examine the work of campaigners and study how leisure time changed. Richly illustrated by artists Watts, Holman Hunt, Lowry and others who show the increasing awareness of changing social conditions.
