Mothering Heights: Finding Mrs Brontë – T409
11 November 2026 @ 3:00 pm - 4:15 pm GMT
Overview
Talk by Sharon Wright
Before Cathy met Heathcliff, before Jane Eyre met Mr Rochester, Maria Branwell met Mr Brontë. They married and their real Regency love story rivals any Brontë novel.
Maria gave us Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë, the most gifted literary siblings the world has ever known. She then vanished from history for 200 years. So who was the missing mother of genius?
Sharon shares her quest across the West Country to unearth Maria’s remarkable, untold life story which she has published in her bestselling biography, Mother of the Brontës.
We’re delighted to offer our afternoon talks on a Pay What You Can basis. We believe everyone should have access to educational and cultural opportunities, and that no one should be excluded because of their financial circumstances. Our talks are £7 for all – if anyone feels they need to pay less than this, please call the team or visit us in person.
