Go to all CoursesOverview
In the early 17th century, immigrant Flemish artists brought a new realism and sophistication to British portraiture. They included Daniel Mytens, Peter Lely, and – most spectacularly – Anthony Van Dyck. The course also covers the civil war and commonwealth period, including native-born painters William Dobson and the talented miniaturist Samuel Cooper as we explore links between portraiture and 17th century history.
