Sallie worked in sport for over 30 years. She originally trained to be a teacher and holds an MA in Physical Education but after one cold and snowy winter, Sallie decided teaching sport was not for her and moved into sports administration. Sallie then worked at the GB Sports Council and Sport England for 12 years before joining the Sport and Recreation Alliance in 2002, where she was the Head of Operations.
Throughout her career, Sallie has focused on the positive benefits of sport in addressing inclusion, diversity, and opportunity and she has a passion for bringing people together to work towards a common goal. She has a particular interest in promoting women and girls in sport, having organised the first International Women and Sport Conference in 1984 and was a member of the team that drafted the Brighton Declaration on Women and Sport. For her services to sport, Sallie was awarded an MBE in the 2017 New Year's Honours list.
Sallie has a deep commitment to public service which began during her teaching career, serving as an Officer in the Territorial Army for nearly 20 years. She retired in 2015 and is now able to use her time on her passion - volunteering and working for her community. She has taken on a number of national and local roles and is currently Chair of British Blind Sport, Finance and Governance Director of World Lacrosse, Member of Wanborough Barn Management Committee and on the board of Guildford Dementia Hub. Sallie was elected as a Guildford Borough Councillor for Pilgrims Ward in May 2023 and was appointed Mayor for the municipal year 2024-25.
