Overview

Throughout his long career, Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted women – his wife, his mistresses, his friends, professional models, young working-class girls, actresses and society women. Women were his main source of inspiration, the eternal object of seduction, the living embodiment of art and beauty; his images represent Parisian society at the height of Impressionism. This course will critically consider Renoir’s approach and style evolution, coinciding with the exhibition ‘Renoir and Love’ at the National Gallery, London, 03 October 2026 –
31 January 2027.
