Talk by Ian Goodall

Before vaccines, the great plagues swept across Europe, killing millions of people. This highly illustrated talk will tell the story of the development of vaccines, life before them and the remarkable people involved in their creation.

Ian will look at key figures including Lady Montague Wortley (inoculation in England), Edward Jenner (smallpox vaccine) and Louis Pasteur (germs, not bad air, cause disease leading to vaccines against anthrax and rabies).

Ian finishes by explaining how the most modern mRNA vaccines work, and how they have been used against Covid 19.
