Seventy years ago, as the first Sputnik orbited between the Earth and the Moon, Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe began his design for the ‘Sky Garden’ on the roof of Harvey’s Department Store in Guildford. His concept was for a roof garden that would literally hang between the earth and the sky, reflecting the heavens in its watery pools. This lecture will explore Jellicoe’s life and garden design ideas.
