The British Museum opened in 1759. The Design Museum moved to South Kensington in 1857, later becoming the V&A in increasingly splendid buildings. London’s art galleries arrived more slowly; Dulwich in 1811; a National Gallery only in 1824. Even Belgium had a modern art museum before London had the Tate! Discover London’s key museums and their building histories in this richly illustrated course.
