Increasing populations and the sprawl of London led to extensive 20^th century Surrey building. Municipal buildings from grand Edwardian town halls to less distinguished civic centres followed local government reorganisations. We study the Surrey suburb, also ground-breaking individual homes including Oliver Hill’s Joldwynds and Patrick Gwynne’s The Homewood. Ecclesiastical architecture includes Guildford Cathedral, and nonconformist and Catholic churches in modern styles.
